Grading

Why do we grade?

We use a grading system to help us with game allocation and session design. When you first visit us, we will as you to do as self-assessment of where you think your grade is. As you get better, your grade will generally get better and your grade is an ongoing discussion between you and the club.

Grade D- NOOB

• Can hold the racket correctly

• Know what the lines mean

• Know where to stand

Grade D  Learner

• Can serve and it mostly go over the net

• Can have a tippy-tappy rally

• Know which lines are in and out depending on the game and if it is a serve or not.

Grade D+  Novice

• Can serve and it mostly be in

• Can have a rally with varying (intentional) shots

• Generally know where to stand on the court with occasional assistance

Grade C- Social

• Can serve somewhat reliable short and high serves

• You start to think about where you are going to place your return

• You are starting to be able to do drops, smashes and clears, with inconsistent results.

Grade C Good Social

• You can do both forehand and backhand serves.

• You are aware of where your partner is and can move accordingly

• You can mostly return other C grade players shots

• You can follow the score

Grade C+ Strong Social

• You have a backhand return, however it does not result in a challenging shot.

• You are generally able to perform a variety of badminton shots with success, but not with a challenging return.

• You can keep the score

Grade B- Club

• You have a good range of shots, however they are inconsistent.

• You are able to take advantage of your opponents weaknesses

• Your serve is mostly reliable.

Grade B - Good Club

• Your consistency is improving across the board, but by no means perfect

• You can support your partner and move about the court when it is your partners shot

• You are confident at the net and can perform reliable drop shots.

Grade B+ Strong Club

• You consistently defend and return smashes against you.

• You have a variety of shots at your disposal which you can perform with reasonable accuracy.

• You can play with a variety of partners to offer the most competitive version of yourselves.

Grade A- Advanced

• You have a consistent ability to perform strong shots, including backhand and smashes.

• You are completely aware of what your opponent is doing and can place shots based on this

• You have an advanced knowledge of the rules

Grade A Expert

• You have exceptional footwork and appear to glide across the court.

• You have the physical stamina to out perform your opponents.

• You are the master of deception.

Grade A+ Pro

• You rarely make un-forced errors

• You can manipulate your opponents at ease

• You have no obvious weakness
